Local Heritage & Fishermen’s Past
Long before Doryman’s Oceanfront Inn became a beloved boutique retreat, the building served a very different purpose. Originally constructed in the early 1900s, it was used as a bunkhouse for the Dory Fishing Fleet, a collective of independent fishermen who still operate at the Newport Pier today. The structure’s transformation into a Victorian-style inn preserved that connection to Newport’s maritime roots while introducing the comforts of modern hospitality.
Inside, antique furnishings, carved woodwork, and soft lighting create an atmosphere that pays tribute to the inn’s century-old character. The restoration retained much of the building’s original design while adding air conditioning, Wi-Fi, marble bathrooms, and fireplaces in select rooms. Guests staying here aren’t just close to the beach — they’re sleeping in a piece of Newport’s living history, where craftsmanship and coastal heritage meet timeless comfort.
